The Exquisite Box Project was an experiment designed to challenge the way people interact with one another on a personal level. Each box had contents that were geared towards a specific objective such as promoting physical activity, literacy among young children, appreciating others, and keeping your neighborhood clean.
The boxes were planted around Detroit for people to discover. Upon finding a box, the recipient was asked to perform the activity specified by the box as well as reach out to us through various social media platforms so that we could track its progress. After the recipients completed the activity, they were to pass the box on to someone else, or leave it somewhere for another person to find.
The Exquisite Box Project was a collaborative project between Joseph Anstett and Samantha Schaefer.
